Bedouin Muslim Dedicated to Prosperous Future for Israel

[Chico Enterprise-Record] Larry Mitchell - Ishmael Khaldi, 36, an Israeli diplomat, is a Bedouin, a member of an Arab people known for its nomadic lifestyle and ability to survive in the desert. He is now deputy consul-general at the Israeli Consulate in San Francisco, after earning a master's degree in political science from Tel Aviv University and serving in the Israeli Defense Ministry and Police Force. Speaking at Chico State, he noted that when "Jewish pioneers" came to settle in Israel, the newcomers, who sought land, weren't a threat to the Bedouins, for whom land was not important. He said he hopes the Palestinians will soon realize the importance of uniting behind responsible, moderate leaders. More information about Khaldi can be found at www.ishmaelkhaldi.com.
