(The Times-UK) Anshel Pfeffer - Israel had been planning an operation against Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza "for months" and was able to exploit fractures in the leadership, intelligence sources told The Times. Intelligence services had been monitoring communications between PIJ secretary-general Ziad Nakhalah and two of the group's senior military commanders, and noted the increasingly angry tones in which the commanders demanded the transfer of a large sum of money from Tehran in return for carrying out a spectacular attack on Israel.
