English Village Caught in Anti-Israel Protests

(Middle East Eye-UK) Ross Slater - On the face of it, Shenstone, in the West Midlands, is the village other villages wish they were. But on Feb. 23, scores of police officers were surrounding a factory building flying the Palestinian flag. On the factory's roof were six activists from the group Palestine Action, protesting that the company, UAV Engines, is owned by Israel's Elbit Systems. But what do the locals think? One of the factory's employees pointed out that the firm had been there since 1992 and that nothing they made was exported to Israel. Those targeting the firm, he said, were "pure anti-Semites" who would just as easily attack supermarkets for selling kosher food. "This is a factory full of local guys, engineering and trying to make a living and put food on their family's tables." MP Michael Fabricant said, "These products made in Shenstone go to the British Army and the Royal Air Force and other Nato countries."
