How Azerbaijan Destroyed Russian S-300s in Armenia with Israeli Suicide Drones

(Middle East Eye-UK) Ragip Soylu - During the Nagorno-Karabakh war last year, at first Azerbaijan found it difficult to detect Armenia's concealed, Russian-made, S-300 air defense systems. A senior official in Baku told Middle East Eye that Azerbaijan used a decoy aircraft to lure and identify the S-300s. They converted Soviet-era Antonov single-engine agricultural aircraft into unmanned aerial vehicles operated by remote control. "The Antonovs would appear on radar as legitimate military-grade drones and activate the S-300 systems," the official said. "And then Israeli-built Harop loitering munitions, dubbed 'kamikaze drones,' would hit the Russian-made systems." Armenia lost six S-300 systems, according to the Azerbaijan military.
