Israel: No More Honorary Consulates in Jerusalem


(Times of Israel) In November, in a step intended to encourage governments to open embassies in Jerusalem, Israel's Foreign Ministry sent a formal letter to all governments with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations, notifying them that honorary consulates would no longer be permitted in the capital. Channel 13 on Thursday reported that this decision follows attempts by the Czech Republic and Australia to open honorary consulates in Jerusalem in lieu of an embassy move. The offers were turned down by Israel.
