Coming of Age in Sinai

(Jerusalem Post) Jonathan Spyer - The July 1 attack by Sinai Province demonstrated a level of tactical proficiency and sophistication hitherto not seen in Sinai's Islamic State affiliate. The jihadists used Russian-made Kornet antitank missiles, and antiaircraft missiles. These tactics suggest that Islamic State fighters have been responsible for instructing the Sinai jihadists in their own way of war. The writer is director of the Rubin Center for Research in International Affairs and a fellow at the Middle East Forum.
