Azerbaijan: A Shiite Nation Embraces Its Jews


(Los Angeles Jewish Journal) Rob Eshman - Azerbaijan is a former Soviet country of 9 million people on the Caspian Sea. A Shiite nation that borders Iran, Azerbaijan is Israel's largest supplier of oil and a major purchaser of Israeli defense technology. About 4,000 people live in Red Village in northeast Azerbaijan, every one of them Jewish - an entirely Jewish town in an almost entirely Muslim country.
