Israel-Lebanon Tensions and the Hariri Assassination Investigation

Tabler, and Jeffrey White - In the aftermath of the February 2005 assassination of former Lebanese premier Rafiq Hariri, the UN established an International Independent Investigation Commission (IIIC), which quickly implicated Syria in the killing. More recently, however, the commission and its prosecutorial arm, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), have focused on Hizbullah's alleged role. Some sources have even implicated senior Hizbullah official Mustafa Badreddine, brother-in-law of former top commander Imad Mughniyah. Recent reports assert that between two and six Hizbullah members will be indicted.
