(Ynet News) Rotem Elizera - During the war in Gaza last summer, Sgt. Erez Halfon served as an army medic. On July 19, 2014, "I saw a soldier lying on the ground in need of immediate treatment," he said. The soldier had a piece of shrapnel lodged under his neck. "I saw the blood shooting out through the shrapnel's entry hole and realized that if I didn't take care of it urgently, there's an immediate risk to his life." He created a pressure point - pressing the artery to the bone with his hand to block the blood flow. Doctors later said that had Halfon arrived a minute later, the soldier would not have survived. Despite the explosions all around him, Halfon did not leave the wounded soldier's side. When the soldier was evacuated, Halfon continued pressing the wound with his hand.
