U.S. Airstrike Kills Somali Linked to Al-Qaeda

[Washington Post] Stephanie McCrummen and Karen DeYoung - Aden Hashi Ayro, a top insurgent leader in Somalia whom U.S. officials have accused of having ties to al-Qaeda, was killed in a U.S. airstrike early Thursday. A spokesman for U.S. Central Command confirmed that the U.S. had attacked "a known al-Qaeda operative and militia leader," launching five Tomahawk cruise missiles from a U.S. naval vessel. Over the past year, the U.S. has carried out five known attacks in Somalia aimed at al-Qaeda operatives.
