Israel's Growing Military Tech Savvy Gives It Leverage Abroad

(Defense Opinion) Angelo Arvizo - Germany will begin training on Israel's Arrow-3 missile defense system to prepare for the system's arrival in the country later in the year. Meanwhile, Germany voted at a recent EU gathering to help stall and then shelve possible sanctions against Israel over Gaza. This highlights Israel's growing global reach outside the U.S. through its advanced defense technology, now central to Europe's security calculus. Arrow-3 destroys warheads in space well before they start their final dive. Its first kill was a November 2023 interception of a Houthi ballistic missile headed for the Israeli city of Eilat. During the 12-day war in June against Iran, Israeli Arrow-3 and Arrow-2 batteries worked with a U.S. THAAD battery to achieve an 86% intercept rate against Iranian ballistic missiles. Arrow interceptors handled 80% of the shots. Germany also is negotiating with Israel for its silent underwater Blue Whale scout. Greece signed for its own Blue Whale purchase in May 2025. European states are beginning to solidify a pattern of Israeli tech adoption. As its exports grow, so will Israel's ability to remain independent of foreign political constraints.
