State Department: U.S. Not Saying Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria Are Illegal

(Jerusalem Post) Lahav Harkov - The U.S. was not reverting back to the Hansell Memo of 1978, which called Israeli communities beyond the 1949 armistice lines illegal, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said Monday. The U.S. decided last week to stop joint scientific research with Israel in the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, reversing a decision by former secretary of state Mike Pompeo in 2020. However, a U.S. diplomatic source said since Pompeo's decision, no grant money had actually been given to Israeli institutions in those areas.
