Israel's President Sees Hope for Judicial Compromise

(New York Times) Patrick Kingsley - Two weeks after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suspended the judicial overhaul legislation to allow for negotiations with the opposition, President Isaac Herzog, who is overseeing the negotiations to find a compromise, said in an interview this week that the negotiations were gaining momentum and that consensus was possible. Herzog also warned Israel's enemies against interpreting the country's internal divisions as a sign of military weakness. "Don't fool yourselves," Herzog said. "We have always been united when it comes to our defense and security. Israel is extremely strong and is capable of taking action if needed."
