(Al-Monitor) Pensioners took to the streets in many provincial capitals across Iran this week to protest rapidly rising prices. In Shiraz on Monday, retirees held a symbolic funeral for a tablecloth to highlight the disappearance of food from their tables. Expressions of disillusionment are also being increasingly heard on social media, as some government loyalists are joining the chorus. The retirees' protest was the latest in a chain of demonstrations of public discontent, preceded by that of teachers, bus drivers and industrial laborers.
