(New York Times) Farnaz Fassihi and Ronen Bergman - A senior Iranian military officer, Col. Ali Esmaelzadeh, died at his home a week after another high-ranking officer in the same unit, Col. Sayad Khodayari, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Tehran. Both officers were members of a secret detachment of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Unit 840, which Israeli officials say is tasked with killing foreigners abroad. Two senior Israeli defense officials said Friday that Israel did not kill Esmaelzadeh.
