Israel Opens Underground Blood Bank

(Times of Israel) Nathan Jeffay - Israel's Magen David Adom on Monday opened a new $135 million underground national blood bank in Ramla - the Marcus National Blood Services Center. The three underground floors are protected by extra-thick concrete walls, blast doors, and airlocks, as well as shielding from biological and chemical attacks. No other country has "a facility like this, with such a high level of protection," said Moshe Noyovich, the engineer who oversaw the project.
