These experienced pilots and mechanics who have been helping the Assad regime bomb civilians since 2015 are now needed for the war against Ukraine. The popularity of Israel, even admiration, among ordinary Ukrainians is hard to exaggerate. It crops up in every interview and chance encounter. Israel is seen as an independent country that has prospered in a hostile environment, just as the Ukrainians aspire to do.
