Carabiniere Who Saved Jewish Girls Named Righteous among Nations

(ANSA-Italy) A late Carabiniere (national police) officer who saved two Jewish sisters from the Nazis was named as Righteous among the Nations by Israel on Thursday. Brig. Giuseppe Ippoliti, along with his wife Teresa Zani, took Edith and Trude Fischhof into his home near Brescia in 1943, saving them from deportation to the death camps. The great-grandson of Ippoliti, who died in 1974, was given the honor by Israeli Ambassador to Italy Dror Eydar. At the ceremony, Edith Fischhof recalled the dramatic days of their rescue.
