German Court Convicts Former Syrian Official of Crimes Against Humanity

(New York Times) Ben Hubbard - A court in Germany convicted former Syrian secret police officer Eyad al-Gharib, 44, on Wednesday of aiding and abetting crimes against humanity for his role in arresting and transporting protesters to an interrogation center known for torture. He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
