Ukraine's President Zelensky Unveils New Babyn Yar Monument on International Holocaust Remembrance Day

(Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center) President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday unveiled a new monument commemorating the Babyn Yar massacre at a ceremony marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The monument includes a tree with broken branches, as a metaphor for a life cut short. Israel's President Reuven Rivlin broadcast a message saying: "There has been no crueler, no more concentrated instance of mass killing than that of Babyn Yar....Let the memory of our brothers and sisters who were slaughtered at Babyn Yar, and at other extermination sites, be engraved in our hearts forever." On Sep. 29-30, 1941, 33,771 Jews, including infants, children, women and the elderly, were shot at the Babyn Yar ravine by the Nazis.
