Iran Seizes South Korean Oil Tanker in Persian Gulf

(Reuters) Parisa Hafezi - Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps seized a South Korean-flagged tanker in the Persian Gulf and detained its crew, Iranian media said on Monday, amid tensions between Tehran and Seoul over $7 billion in Iranian funds frozen in South Korean banks due to U.S. sanctions. The U.S. State Department called for Iran to release the tanker immediately, saying, "The regime continues to threaten navigational rights and freedoms in the Persian Gulf as part of a clear attempt to extort the international community into relieving the pressure of sanctions."
