Wedding Season Brings New Virus Outbreak among Palestinians in West Bank

(AP) Mohammed Daraghmeh - Over the last few weeks, coronavirus infections have skyrocketed across the West Bank, with more than 4,000 new cases and an additional 15 deaths. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said Monday that 82% of the cases were linked to weddings and funerals. Hebron accounts for 75% of all active cases and more than 2/3 of all deaths. Hebron's mayor, Tayseer Abu Snaineh, said a group of conservative Muslims, Hezb ut-Tahrir, has called on people to defy restrictions on group prayers, accusing the PA of "using coronavirus as a pretext to fight Islam."
