U.S. Senate Affirms Turkish Responsibility for Century-Old Armenian Genocide

(AP-TIME) Matthew Daly - The U.S. Senate on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution that recognizes the mass killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turks a century ago as genocide. Co-sponsored by Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), the nonbinding resolution affirms that the genocide occurred and that Turkey is responsible. The House passed an identical resolution overwhelmingly in October. Turkey has lobbied for years against such U.S. recognition.
