Japanese Firms Pursuing Opportunities in Israel

(Yomiuri Shimbun-Japan) Yasushi Kaneko - The number of Japanese companies doing business in Israel has tripled since 2013 to 80. Some 200 people from 100 companies accompanied Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Hiroshige Seko on a visit to Israel in January. Japanese investments in Israel have increased dramatically, from $10 million in 2013 to $1.2 billion in 2017. Japanese companies used to be reluctant to advance into Israel for fear of the Arab boycott of Israel. However, with better relations between Israel and Arab nations now, Seko said on Jan. 15: "The Arab boycott has lost substance. There are companies in Israel that have great innovative ideas, and Japan has technology to turn those ideas into reality. We have a mutually complementary relationship."
