Army Blasts Its Way to a Stronger Bomb Shelter

(Times of Israel) Judah Ari Gross - Can your bomb shelter survive a near-direct hit from a Scud missile? There's only one way to find out: Blow up explosives next to the shelter and see how it does. The army's Home Front Command has been conducting blast tests on bomb shelters in the Arava desert. On Wednesday, the IDF detonated nearly a ton of explosives next to concrete bunkers outfitted with three new designs for doors - meant to address one of the most vulnerable aspects of protective rooms. Israelis are required, under law, to build a protective room in their home or apartment, to defend against rocket attacks as well as earthquakes.
