Israeli-Designed Bacteria Could Help Solve World's Plastic Problem

(Ha'aretz) Zafrir Rinat - Only 14% of the 311 million tons of plastic produced every year is recycled, while the rest festers in our environment. An Israeli research team at Ben-Gurion University has developed genetically engineered, plastic-eating bacteria that targets polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the most common thermoplastic polymer resin used in bottles and food containers.
