(Jerusalem Post) Lidar Grave-Lazi - As the Jewish New Year begins next week, Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday estimated the population to be 8.585 million. There are 6.419 million Jewish residents (74.8% of the total) and 1.786 million Arab residents (20.8%). An additional 380,000 people (4.4%) are non-Arab Christians or people of other religions. Jewish women had an average of 3.13 children in 2015, while Muslim women had 3.32 children, down from 8.47 children during the first half of the 1970s.
