Islamic State Holds Russian Intelligence Officer Hostage

(Long War Journal) Thomas Joscelyn - The Islamic State's Furat Media Establishment posted a video online on Sept. 20 of a Russian-speaking man dressed in black with a badge that reads "infidel." He identifies himself as Petrenko Ivgeniy Viktorovich, a captain in the Russian intelligence service, and pleads with the Russian government and people to do whatever it takes to free him from captivity. The writer is a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
