(Times of Israel) Raphael Ahren - Egypt has appointed a new ambassador to Israel, the Israel Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem said on Sunday. Hazem Khairat served previously as Egypt's representative to the Arab League and then as ambassador to Chile. Cairo's last ambassador to Israel, Atef Salem, was recalled in 2012 in the wake of Israel's Operation Pillar of Defense in Gaza.
