U.S.-Backed Rebels Push Forward in Southern Syria

(AP-Washington Post) Syrian rebels backed by the U.S. are making their biggest gains yet, capturing a string of towns from government forces south of the capital Damascus. The rebel forces are believed to include fighters who graduated from a nearly 2-year-old CIA training program based in Jordan. The rebels are working together with fighters from al-Qaeda's Syria branch, which points to the difficulty in American efforts to build up "moderate" factions while isolating militants.
