Chinese Firms Swoop into Israel Looking for Tech Investments

(Wall Street Journal) Orr Hirschauge - Chinese investors are pouring millions into Israel-focused, tech-investment funds, as well as launching their own funds and investing directly in Israeli startups. Yongjin Group Inc. has put $15-20 million into Israeli venture fund Pitango Venture Capital during the past year. Lenovo Group Ltd. invested $10 million in Canaan Partners Israel in August. Ping An Venture created a $100 million fund dedicated to U.S. and Israel tech ventures, and has made six investments in Israeli startups so far. In the first half of 2014, 335 Israeli high-tech companies raised a record $1.6 billion in capital, 81% higher than in the year-earlier period.
