The "success" of the Shalit operation - which led to the release of over 1,000 Palestinian prisoners - has assured Hamas that the effectiveness of kidnapping has not abated. Palestinian politics has yet to reach the point where critics of Hamas can safely point out that its belligerency has spelled a decade of ruin for Gaza's economy and society.
