(Ha'aretz) - Lt. Malek Jerifat, 24, of the Galilee Beduin village of Beit Zarzir, a deputy company commander, was killed by a Palestinian sniper near Nisanit in northern Gaza. He was the third member of his village to have died in uniform during the intifada and came from a family with a long tradition of service in the security forces. Thousands attended his funeral.
