A Further Turn to the Right: Israeli Public Opinion on National Security - 2002

(Jaffee Center - Tel Aviv University) Asher Arian - According to the 2002 annual survey of the National Security and Public Opinion Project of the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies, support for the Oslo process dropped sharply to 35% in 2002, from 58% a year before. Only 37% of respondents thought that most Palestinians wanted peace, down from 46% in 2001, 52% in 2000, and 64% in 1999. Fifty-seven percent disagreed with the assertion that settlements are an obstacle to peace.
