(Foundation for Defense of Democracies) Jonathan Schanzer - After he resigned on Sunday, newly appointed PA Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah tweeted: "The situation in this country forced me to resign. Conflicts, confusion, corruption. Palestine needs a real political reform." Abbas wanted a weak premier who could enable him to consolidate power. Hamdallah's resignation makes it clear that in the post-Fayyad era, the need for improved Palestinian governance is an issue that will not go away. The writer is vice president for research at FDD.
