PM Wants Putin to Drop Plan to Move Roadmap to UN

(Jerusalem Post) - Aluf Benn Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, heading to Russia on Sunday for a three-day trip, wants to try to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin to drop his plan to have the Security Council pass a resolution adopting the Quartet's roadmap for peace. Israel is vehemently opposed to the roadmap being moved to the Security Council. Sharon will also discuss developments in Iran, including Russia's involvement in Tehran's nuclear program. (Ha'aretz) One diplomatic official said Israel opposes this resolution because it represents an "internationalization" of the conflict, and because the roadmap itself states that in the final phase a comprehensive permanent status agreement will be negotiated by the parties.
