U.S. Congress Approves $145M for Arrow Anti-Missile Missile Development

(Yediot Ahronot-Hebrew) Yitzhak Ben-Horin - The U.S. Congress has approved $144.8 million for the development of Israel's Arrow missile project and the production of missiles for Israel's defense in 2004. Congress added $80 million to the administration's recommended $64.8 million. Last year's U.S. support was $70 million. Congress also approved $57 million for the continuation of a project utilizing lasers to defend Israel's northern border from katyusha rockets, a joint project first agreed upon by President Clinton and Prime Minister Peres in 1996. The administration had requested $40 million and Congress added $17 million. Two weeks ago, the Indian prime minister asked the U.S. to sell it Patriot missiles, reinforced by Arrow missiles.
