(New York Times) - When Ayatollah Muhammad Bakr al-Hakim was asked whether the [American] infidels should be expelled, he responded, "if we [Shiites] don't cooperate with the Americans, someone else will cooperate and we will have lost our opportunity." Hakim's death Friday eliminated one of the few leaders of any stature who counseled against fighting the Americans.
