Abbas Won't Crack Down on Palestinian Militants

(AP/The Age-Australia) Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmud Abbas said he will not crack down on Palestinian militant groups, despite being urged by the U.S. and Israel to do so. "Cracking down on Hamas, Jihad, and the Palestinian organizations is not an option at all," Abbas said in Cairo. Disarming militant groups responsible for attacks on Israelis is a condition of the U.S.-backed road map to Middle East peace.
