Screw Tightens on Iran over Nuclear Ambitions

(London Times) The UN nuclear watchdog has formally demanded that Iran prove that it is not developing atomic weapons, but decided not to refer the issue to the UN Security Council, which could have led to sanctions being imposed. The board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) insisted that Iran stop enriching uranium, a key step in making atomic bombs. However, it shied away from declaring that Iran was in violation of treaty obligations not to build nuclear weapons. The IAEA said that it expected Iran "to grant the agency all access deemed necessary by the agency; to defuse suspicions that Tehran was operating a clandestine nuclear weapons program."
