Canadian Magen David Adom Resolves Tax Dispute

(Canadian Jewish News)- In July 2001, the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) notified Canadian Magen David Adom for Israel (CMDA) that its charitable status was being revoked, charging that ambulances donated by CMDA were being used in the West Bank, Gaza, and east Jerusalem in contravention to Canadian public policy. In a bargain struck with the CCRA, CMDA has changed how it operates, had its registration revoked on May 3, 2003, and was then re-registered as a charitable organization on May 4.
