(Atlantic Council) Frederic C. Hof - Assad and the Syrian regime kingpins would do well to set aside the notion that they can shoot their way out of their predicament. To employ dirty weapons would alienate Moscow. A far better course for Assad would be to depart Syria, leaving behind a successor prepared to negotiate a peaceful political transition. It is perhaps not too late for him to perform two final acts of decency: keep the chemical components under lock and key, and leave.
