Lebanese Leader Quits over Syria's Role

(Times-UK) Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri resigned and dismantled his government Wednesday in the wake of Syria's imposed extension of the mandate of Lebanon's President Lahoud last month. The departure of Harari, a self-made billionaire who has served as Lebanon's prime minister for ten of the past twelve years, could further isolate Lebanon and its political master, Syria. Buoyed by UN intervention, the opposition in Lebanon has grown more vocal, demanding an end to Syrian hegemony.
