Armed Men Attack Egypt's Islamist Presidential Hopeful

(Reuters) A leading Islamist candidate for the Egyptian presidency, Abdel Moneim Abol Fotoh, 60, was attacked by armed men and was in intensive care suffering from a brain concussion, aides said Friday. Abol Fotoh was expelled from the Muslim Brotherhood when he defied its decision not to put up a presidential candidate. Sheikh Yousef al-Qaradawi, one of the most widely respected Sunni Muslim clerics in the Arab world, has described Abol Fotoh as the "leading candidate."
