(New York Times) Isabel Kershner - Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, called Friday for closer engagement between the U.S. and Israel during a visit to the country. After meeting with Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, Israel's military chief of staff, Col. Dave Lapan, the Special Assistant for Public Affairs in the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in a statement that the top generals "discussed military-to-military relations, the new U.S. defense strategy, budget and economic issues and regional security challenges."
