Powell Unable to Make Headway in Mideast

(AP/Washington Post) Barry Schweid - Secretary of State Powell came up short in his latest foray into Middle East peacemaking, blocked by Arafat from reshaping Palestinian security forces and waiting for Sharon to devise a new plan to pull Israel out of Gaza. Powell suggested that Palestinian and other Arab leaders should persuade Arafat to quit, to make way for a successor willing to end terror against Israel.
