Syrian President Refuses to Expel Palestinian Militants

(AP/USA Today) - Syrian President Bashar Assad said Thursday he would not expel Palestinian militant groups as demanded by the U.S., in response to sanctions imposed by the U.S. on Tuesday. Syria hosts Palestinian militant groups such as Islamic Jihad and Hamas, and is on the U.S. State Department's list of terrorist-sponsoring countries. Hamas head Khaled Mashaal has been living in Damascus since 1999. Ramadan Abdullah Shallah, who heads the Islamic Jihad, moved to Syria in the 1990s.
