PM Meets U.S. Envoys on Disengagement Plan

(Ha'aretz) Aluf Benn - Prime Minister Sharon is slated to meet Thursday in Jerusalem with U.S. diplomatic envoys to continue talks about the plan for unilateral disengagement from the Palestinians and what the U.S. will give Israel in exchange for planned withdrawals. At the core of the talks will be the relationship between the number of settlements Israel evacuates in the West Bank and the depth of U.S. recognition of the settlement blocs of Ariel, Ma'aleh Adumim, and Gush Etzion, which Israel wants to annex in any future peace agreement. Israel has asked the U.S. for, among other things, the right to conduct hot pursuit in Gaza after a withdrawal, if the terror continues. Sharon objects to any coordination with the Palestinians on the disengagement.
