(Ynet News) Avital Lahav - In 2009, Israel devoted 7.8% of its gross domestic product (GDP) to defense expenditures, a study by the Central Bureau of Statistics shows. After the Yom Kippur War, from 1976 to 1995, defense expenditures dropped gradually, but in 1996 an upward trend began. Since the economy experienced rapid growth in those years, the defense expenditure as a percentage of the GDP continued to drop.
