Lebanon Wants Assassination Probe Extended

(AP/Washington Post) Sam F. Ghattas - Lebanese Prime Minister Saniora will urge UN Secretary-General Annan to seek Security Council approval for a six-month extension to a UN investigation into the assassination of a former prime minister, Information Minister Ghazi Aridi said Thursday. The investigating commission, whose mandate is set to expire Dec. 15, said in its interim report last month that Syria must have known about the plot to kill Hariri and may have been involved. The Mehlis commission is expected to question five senior Syrian officials in Vienna next week.
